Warning Description: Winter Storm Warning

Warning Date: 10:20 PM PST on March 11, 2010

WarningSum:...Winter Storm Warning Remains In Effect From 10 Am Friday To
4 Am Pst Saturday Above 4500 Feet...

Warning Message:A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and strong winds above 4500 
feet remains in effect from 10 am Friday to 4 am PST Saturday for 
the Sierra Nevada mountains including western Plumas County. 
* Snow accumulations and elevation: a foot or more above 5000
  feet...and up to a couple of inches accumulating down to around
  3000 feet by late Friday night.
* Timing: snow beginning midday Friday becoming heavy by late
  afternoon and evening...and continuing overnight.
* Winds: southerly wind gusts 45 to 55 mph...locally stronger
  through passes and over ridges.
* Impacts: hazardous driving conditions for mountain roads such as
  Interstate 80...Highway 50...and Highway 70.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning means that significant snow accumulations
are expected and will be combined with strong winds and poor
visibilities that will impact travel. If you must travel...keep a
flashlight...food...water...warm clothing...and other survival
items in your vehicle in case you get stuck. Carry chains when
traveling through the mountains and continue to monitor the latest
forecasts for weather updates.
