CURRENT NEWS, APRIL, 2008
UPDATES:
When building a model from a commerical kit, it is the super-detailing which will set your model apart from one built by someone else. Jerry Kitts of Foothill Model Works started with a PSC brass Shay kit, and proceeded to give it a unique appearance, in part using detailing parts from The Back Shop. Included on his model are our air hoses (with flexible tubing), generator, bell, whistle, grease bucket and various backhead appliances. The model also features one of the newest additions to the line, the extended-knuckle, forked-shank "3/4-size" coupler seen mounted in the coupler pocket. These are one-piece castings, and you have a choice of plain knuckle or slotted knuckle with vertical core, so as to run links or roosters. There is no hole-drilling required, everything is cored for you !! Be sure to check out all of the new products available from Jerry and
Foothill Model Works on-line at his website.
MEET THE MAGNETIC FLAGMEN ! ! Our line-up of Magnetic Flagmen continues to grow. These are the famous "Wig Wag Signals," as produced by the Magnetic Signal Company of Los Angeles, California. We now have the lower-quadrant type, seen in the rear of the photo. This was the most common type used in West by a large number of railroads, including shortlines. In the foreground are two upper-quadrant types, the taller one is the grade crossing version. The shorter style was used in urban street intersections. These kits are all-brass with the exception of the lenses. Kit contents include investment-cast brass castings, K&S tubing, the lenses (in acrylic), plus illustrated instructions. Construction is quick and easy and soldering is not required (any modern adhesive will work). msrp for the lower quadrant kit is $39.50. The upper-quadrant wig-wag kit is
$32.50 and will build either type shown in the photo. Shipping is $5.25 Priority Mail + tracking
tag. Exact airmail charges for overseas shipments, we don't try to make a profit on shipping !!
And, yes, we do plan other types of Wig-Wags, and pattern work is already
underway. As always, we are just an email away for further information or to help with a question.
